The Long Press feature on Airfob
(Suprema Mobile Access) allows users to unlock doors or gates from a distance
of up to 5 meters. This feature is designed to enhance access convenience,
particularly for areas where reaching a reader directly might be challenging, such
as parking gates or restricted entrances where direct proximity to the
reader isn’t practical.
How to Use Long Press:
- Open
the Airfob App and select the mobile credential (badge) for your location.
- Hold
your finger down on the badge for two seconds.
- The
phone will attempt to connect to a nearby Suprema reader over Bluetooth,
activating the access point up to 5 meters away.
Intended Use:
The Long Press feature is best suited
for environments where single, hard-to-reach readers are installed. This
includes gates, parking barriers, and other access points where direct contact
with the reader is impractical.
Why Long Press May Not Work as Expected
in Certain Environments:
- Proximity
and Multiple Readers:
Long Press operates by detecting the first available reader in range, not
necessarily the closest one. In settings with multiple readers in close
proximity, the feature might inadvertently activate a different reader
than intended due to Bluetooth’s signal reach and environmental factors.
- Signal
Interference:
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), used in Long Press, can be affected by
barriers such as concrete walls, metal doors, and other obstacles. As a
result, the effective range may vary, potentially causing inconsistent
activation distances across different environments.
- Variable
Connection Distances:
The BLE algorithm continuously adapts based on the device’s interaction
history with the reader, which means the connection distance may decrease
after repeated connections, ultimately converging to a stable activation
range of approximately 5 cm. This natural variance means BLE technology is
not suitable for cases where precise, consistent distance activation (like
exactly 20-30 cm) is required.
If your needs require precise distance
control or reliable performance in close-range, multi-reader setups, we
recommend using mobile credentials in a conventional way, bringing the phone
close to the reader. For hands-free operation, alternative access methods like
facial recognition may be more appropriate.
