Understanding the SIO2 Secure Module​

The SIO2 Secure Module serves as a linchpin in your access control system. Its main function is to securely control access to doors by enabling encrypted communication between the door and the reader. ​

When attached to a reader outside the secure perimeter of a building, a relay can potentially allow unauthorized access by simply touching the relay wires. The SIO2 Secure Module prevents this by acting as an intermediary between the reader and the relay. ​

The SIO2 Secure Module sits within the secure perimeter, with the relay connected directly to it. The reader then communicates with the SIO2 using an RS485 cable. Importantly, this communication is encrypted to further bolster security. The relay to open the door is only triggered when the SIO2 receives a valid, encrypted authentication signal from the reader.

Setting Up Your SIO2 Secure Module​
