Location Services FAQ

Location Services FAQ

The Airfob app will ask you to allow location services to work smoothly with your smartphone's mobile access card. Location services are very private and important personal data, so we have prepared this article to seriously inform you about the location services of Airfob app.

Why am I being asked to enable location services to use the Airfob App?

The Airfob app works through Bluetooth communication between your smartphone and the device (the mobile card reader installed on the door). It requests location services to recognize that it is communicating to authenticate the mobile card. In background mode mode we ask you to enable location services to ensure the highest level of security without compromising your privacy.

Dose the Airfob app store the location services data?

No. The Airfob app does not store location data based on you or your device's GPS in the app, and never provide it to any third party.

The Airfob app works through Bluetooth communication between your smartphone and the device (mobile card reader), and uses location information to recognize the Bluetooth between your smartphone and the device to provide door access services. At this time, the Airfob app does not store your location information, but your access logs are recorded in the site administrator portal of the space you are visiting. All rights to user information and access logs belong to the company using the Airfob service, and the Airfob app and MOCA System do not store or use such information.

Will enabling location services drain my phone's battery?

No. Many apps that use location services use your phone's GPS features, which will drain the battery. The Airfob app does not use GPS and will not increase your battery consumption.

Am I required to enable location services to use the Airfob app?

If you're using an Android-based smartphone, you must enable and allow location data. Due to Android's policy, apps that use the Bluetooth feature must have location consent.

If you're using an iOS-based smartphone, you must allow location permissions to use the Airfob app to use it in background mode (always on). However, if you use the Airfob app in 'Only while app on screen mode', you are not required to allow location information.

See below for the location permissions required depending on the connection method you set up in the Airfob app.
1. Only while app on screen mode: You can set the location information permission to 'Allow only while using the app'. For iOS smartphones, permission is not required.
2. Background mode (Always): You need to set the location permission to 'Always allow'.
3. Use NFC: For Android smartphones, you can use NFC authentication. Android-based smartphones must agree to the location information permission.

Only while app on screen mode: This mode is used with the app's mobile card screen on the smartphone screen.
Background mode (Always): If the app is running in the background even when the smartphone screen is turned off, you can always authenticate access.

Why does my phone randomly ask me to agree to location services when I use the Airfob App?

1. When you are prompted to enable location services, if you select "Don't Allow" or "Allow Once", your phone may occasionally ask you if you would like to enable location services. This is controlled by iOS or Android, rather than by the App. If you try to enable BLE on Android or Background Mode on iOS or Android, this may cause the prompt to appear.
2. For iOS-based smartphones, a confirmation message is displayed randomly even if 'Always Allow' is selected. This is not a message sent from the app, but a message displayed for periodic confirmation by the user on the smartphone. Depending on the connection method you set up in the Airfob app, you can optionally change or keep it.
